Lenox was launched in 1889 by its founder Walter Scott Lennox. Born in Trenton, NJ, 1859, the leading center for the American ceramic industry in this period, Walter Lennox combined his interest in drawing and clay and began working at a ceramics plant as a designer and interior architect with 16 years of age.

When he was 22 he Ott & Brewer came as its design director. Ott & Brewer eventually folded a few years later, and that's when he decided it was time for him on his own to go.

A mere seven years after taking the design director Walter Lennox began heading his own company, which opened in Lenox's Ceramic Art Company's doors in 1889. Walter created his ceramics as an art and even positioned his new company as a studio rather than a factory. Most of his early productions were one-of-a-kind of ivory China produced.

The Lenox China was originally made only buy 18 people and consisted of a series of vases, pitchers and tea sets. As he had laid the foundation to consider for its productions, art they collected were used by most elite shops of the time. In 1897, even the Smithsonian Institution showed a collection Lennox of China.

In the early 1900's fine food came home vague and Lennox was quick to manage the transition of his company's new tableware needs of the country. He began with complete sets of dishes at very exclusive family in early 1902, the European struggles over control of the trade of fine porcelain.

As America's demand for Lennox of China continues to grow, he changed the name of the company to Lenox Incorporated, its reversal of the philosophy of the ceramic art Society is quite a production company to reflect.

The company first large-scale productions of Lennox China came in 1910 and were patterned Transfer prints, which were then colored by hand. In 1917, Lennox went to China full color lithographic designs. The two original drafts were in Mandarin and Ming, America for over 50 popular years ago. These stickers made sure every piece of crockery was decorated exactly the same and created a kind of trademark search. Hosts were eager to the new pattern on their table, which were easy to spot, so the guests knew that they afford Lennox China.

Lennox was always known as the Chinese have in the United States. In 1918, the White House ordered 1700 units for the official state services. Lennox China was the first American to the White China House are used and remained so since.
