Arts and Glades Community Trades Gatlinburg, Tennessee
By Darryl Payne
One of the lesser-known treasures South is nestled in the hills next to a popular village. What's this? The largest group of independent artists and artisans demonstrating their skills. Community arts and crafts Glades is composed of a country road eight mile loop where more than one hundred artists and artisans parade their trades. You will find a wide variety of art galleries, pottery barns, workshops active showrooms Independent Artists basketry studios, and many more authentic local artisans.
Originally started in 1930, a visit to this unique place is still a visit in an earlier era, in the absence of industrial property machinery and computers. It was a time when a family community gathered to share their talents with one another. Watch a master potter throw and spin clay works one-of-a-kind on a wheel. Observe artists painting in various art forms media, and then discover a mother daughter team / make beautiful jewelry that they designed together. Here the originality and creativity occur daily.
Over the years this has been a place to discover the history and heritage that make up the Great Smoky Mountain inheritance. What is interesting about the artists and artisans is that they are constantly seeking new and innovative ways to capture their art form for the current generation. Each year, new artists have come to share their gifts and talents with the community to make it one of the most unique places to visit in the Smoky Mountains.
To visit the Arts and Crafts Community, simply get on the highway. 321 to Gatlinburg and turn onto Glades or Buckhorn Road then follow signs to the Great Smoky Mountain Arts and Crafts Community. (This is a sign MEMBER who has very distinctive written above.)
